ciência. is science a future, here? ai!!!

All the living beings interested me; from my beginning…teaching was the dream! Learn to teach from then on…that was not easy, Portugal have these great annual applications for their teachers that have to be father, mother, teacher and responsible for the Portuguese children behavior and… Oh! Yes the knowledge. Other ways… for a biologist: laboratory investigation and… master…PhD… for the science, the fundamental area for a country development. Does Portugal want to develop? Science is made by those who can survive with a funding … with no support … without encouragement…without the recognition from you, society. I am on going with laboratory research to complete a scientific plan, being me, myself and…ai!!!

Well...in many ways Portugal problem is that it created expectations in many younger generations that it was itself a modern society and modern country all the while still living according to unwritten rules which resemble more of a feudal system. If one pays respect and obeys someone in power one gets eventually rewarded in terms of job positions. This is understood by all and the fact that instead of rewarding individual abilities the special circle of loyealties is what works...discourages people from doing their best. Only the romantic patriotic ones resist and struggle. But there are so few of those left...
Younger people choose to emigrate once they decide the institutionalized corrupted parallel system is too hard to change. They prefer to eat pasteis de nata abroad and listen to Portuguses musicians in concerts around the globe than living in cramped places in poor housing conditions with no quality of life all the while realizing that being honest doe snot pay off after all and that they too should buy and house and rent it illegally or something like that if they ever want a cosy future. Forget about getting education. these days kids are getting university degrees without knowing enough math to calculate dilutions...and I know this for a fact.
Maybe the slow change will pick up speed. If not, only in 20 yesr or so will this country be in a position to truly acomodate those who have put their best years into studying. There is hope-but it will take time.
